Remember
the fantasy movie "Willow" that came out a couple
of years ago? Well here's the game they made for it. To be
truthful, the game doesn't have that much to do with the movie,
like the game designers change the game to be "Willow"-like
at the last moment, using the name to sell the game.
The game-play
mechanics is similar to Zelda, the battle scenes are real
time. What make's this game different from Zelda is the stat
system thrown in. We seen this before, gain enough experience
to level up by slicing monsters, and bosses. Mp allows you
to cast "spells" in jink. The spells in you arsenal
include stone acorns, healing rods, and even the traditional
fire magic. Nothing new to shock the RPG world back then.
The graphics
are good, well animated, especially in battle scenes. There
is hardly any slowdown. Nothing too revolutionary but still
nice on the eyes. The cave graphics could be a little more
polished, but hey this games 12 years old so who cares!
Music
is a typical Nintendo affair. Catchy but repetive toons abound.
I like the forest song, and the battle music.
But the
game is fun to play, and very well balanced in terms of Leveling
up or staying in the same area. Some areas are complex and
may require maping but in general, you know where you are
going. The controls are solid in excution, Willow basicly does
what you want him to. Willow has two sword attacks, a slash
for groups of enemys or a jab for a singular enemy. The enemies
are interesting, with traditional bad guys like slimes and
snakemen, to more bizarre creations like bee-people and ghouls
that turn you into a pig.
I however,
HATE how they have layed out the towns in this game, they
all look the same, its annoying finding the right house or
place to go in towns, and the people who inhabit the towns
are as useful as mustered is to ice cream!
I like
the simple old-school feel of this game. It is a nice diversion
for all Zelda and Crystalis fans! Go get 'em peck..er...Willow!
