Heres a interesting
Action RPG for the NES nothing like it's arcade counterpart.
Meet Strider! It's your typical platform experience, with
plenty of jumping over spikes, slashing enemy's and getting
killed the majority of the time. The cool thing about this
game is that there are no "levels", instead you
visit certain"locations" around the globe, finding
items like boots, keys and files. You travel back and forth
between these locations as your levels and inventory increase.
I does get annoying going back and forth sometimes but its
better than the standard"level" structuctor in most
Platformers. "Think, simplified Metrod"
This game include
RPG elements like Exp Levels. "Tricks", a catchy
name for "spells" will provide you with healing.
You don't level up by defeating enemies, you level up by finishing
a objective, collecting a important item, or defeating a boss.
It's a nice touch but not really nessary for a platformer
like this.
The controls are
out of snuff, I found myself constantly falling off plaforms,
even though I landed right on top of them. I would attack
a bad guy with a direct hit but they wouldn't die. And the
wall bounce jump is extremely difficult to do, but necessary
if you want to beat the game.
Sound in this game
are the usual bumps and plats. Music sounds like typical "Capcom"
music, similar to Bionic Commando. Some might be remixes of
that classic game.
The
game has a rushed feel to it, and is worst translated game
I've ever played. a good example is when Mr.Kain said "Mr.
kain will attack Strider" but Mr.Kain is the one talking!
You can't help but to laugh out aloud at the stupidity of
the translator. "Kain escaped when I took my eye off
him?" that sure sounds like a question doesn't it!?
Strider is a fun
game but not as good as it's arcade counterpart.
