Megaman
oh how youve changed! Form platform superhero to RPG
anime star but thankfully it is for the better. Megaman the
series has been around for twenty years now and almost as
well known as Mario, the older games where full of action
and repetitive game play. Each level had a end game boss with
the word man somewhere in their names and the
ultimate bad guy was always the evil doctor Willy.
Those
days are now over for Megaman, he has now entered the Action/RPG
genre. His first depute was in Megaman legends a fun but flawed
game. The story was nice but the game was too short and the
dungeons too linear and simple. The camera was the worse part
of the first game, it never did what you wanted it to. Has
it learned it lessons in the sequel? Yes and no.
MML2 carries
on where MML left off, Barrel Casket and his friend Von Burton
decide to continue the search for the mother load, a treasure
of immeasurable wealth. They build a huge ship called the
Sulfur Bottom, and try to use this ship to get through a huge
protective storm on an island thought to hold such treasures.
Consequently they get into some trouble and its
Megaman to the rescue! The storys graphics are all in-game
and they impressive, you almost feel like you are watching
a anime cartoon, a really impressive feat for Capcom. The
attention of detail is surprising for a Play Station Game,
a impressive improvement compared to the first game where
all the sprites and graphics looked blocky.
Level
design is much better compared to the first game. Each dungeon
is unique and full of surprises, you never get board, Theresa
jungle like dungeon and a dungeon filled with water even a
underground tomb! My only complaint with the dungeons is that
they are still a tad blocky compared to the overworld.
Controlling
Megaman is similar to controlling Link in Zelda: Oricana of
Time. You auto-lock your enemies with the R2 key and then
fire at the enemies. It works well, but sometimes it is hard
to pick the right enemy and youll find yourself crushing
the auto-lock. The camera, though better, still needs some
work, its just ironic that they wouldnt improve in this
area, they improved everything else, the controls, the graphics,
why not the camera? Its god-awful! Thankfully good gameplay
and story save this game from a gaming purgatory. The game
will last around 18 to 22 hours, give or take, to find all
the secrets it might take you 30 hours. Thats short
for a RPG but long for a action game so it levels out very
nicely.
If you
liked the first game or action/RPGs in general you will like
this game, just beware of those camera angles, theyre
deadly!
