Grandia Quick Review.
The Sega Saturn
Classic has finally been ported to the Playstation. Grandia
follows the perimeters of a true RPG experience. The story
focuses on the characters themselves instead of the world
around the characters. There is very little CGI in this game,
instead the story is told in real time with the internal use
of the 3d engine, and it surprisingly works very well. The
character themselves while cartoonish looking are surpassingly
deep and are not stereotypically plagued like in most console
rpgs. The game starts out little slow but exciting and epic
it later becomes. The voice acting however is god awful, and
there is not a way to turn them off. Fortunately they are
rare and dont distract from the story or game. Grandia
is huge, and is very, very linear. It will take around 40-60
hours to complete from beginning to end.
The Graphics are
good for a Playstation game, all environments are extremely
detailed and are pleasing to the eye, the game sprites are
rarely pixilated, and are well animated. I did notice some
slowdown mostly in towns, but it is not major enough to mare
the experience. The battle system is nothing revolutionary
but is enjoyable to behold, the magic system is intricately
and fun to build up, each element has 3 levels of power, making
fun to fight just so you can level up all your spells, which
are gloriously animated.
Grandia is a fabulous
game and belongs on every RPG gamers self.
