A SNES(duh!)

Here’s a original idea, play as a good demon name Firebard(I think they also refer to him as a gargoyle) that tries to save humanity defeating the Evil Phalxax and recover the six sacred stones that allows the human world to merge with the demon world (note: this game is not based on Christian beliefs, it’s a Japanese thing). Doesn’t make sense to you? That’s ok, the story is half-baked and lacking though the entire game anyway. It never gives Phalxax a real motive why he wants to merge the worlds so badly, just because he’ll become the ‘ultimate power’?

It’s different than most action platform games, it tries to incorporate RPG elements in to the mix. They added ‘spells’, and ‘potions’, but out of the entire game there is only one towns person that you can talk to (excluding the shops) It’s also tough as nails to beat. Don’t play this game if you are short on patience, because this game will test them! The animation however is excellent! How Firebard moves and flies is a sight to be seen!

Firebard can transform in to four different type of creatures each with strengths and weaknesses, one is a stone giant, another is a pterodactyl like creature, there is also a fish form that allows you to swim under water, the final form mixes all the forms into one neat package. I like the idea of transforming into different creatures with different abilities and I wish there where more games that had something similar to this.

Unfortunately the level design is repetitive and boring in some areas, and the fact that this game only has six levels (or areas), makes it feel redundant! It’s a nice attempt at a platform RPG but it just does not deliver a true RPG experience, no character building, hardly any to talk to and you never get to know Firebard the.. er.. um.. person(?), so you get the feeling "why should I even care?". If your find this game in a bargain bin or used store, it is worth the purchase. BUT I WARN YOU NOW! Make sure you start playing this game when you are bald, or you will pull all you hair out in frustration!

Overall (not an average) 7.4
