Alundra,
oh Alundra, where have thou gone? He is nowhere to be found
in this so-called "sequel", in fact nothing is similar
at all to the original game. It look's like they are just
using the name to sell the product and thats not good
for the fan who buys this "sequel", in fact it will
probably piss him/her/it off!
The story
focuses around a young pirate-hunter named Flint, he seeks
to avenge his mother who was killed by a pirate. The world
is now in the clutches of a evil Baron, who has replaced the
king with a wooden puppet and is commissioning a evil wizard
to make slaves out of the human populace by sticking a wind-up
device in their backs. (I know this sounds lame but bare with
me ok). The kings only daughter has asked Flint for assistance
in overthrowing the evil dictator.
The game
should be called "The Legend of Flint" because it
has nothing to do with Alundra
Nothing.. it's basicly
a Zelda clone for your PSX. Of course all of this could be
forgiven if this was a awesome game but it falls short of
that honor as well.
Alundra
2 is merely a "good" game but with many setbacks.
First are the graphics.. Yes they are in 3d, and yes all the
cut-scenes are real time but they are so jagged and pixilated
that it looks like a game that came out in the Playstation's
early years. The Cut-scenes themselves are well animated but
not to the point that Megaman Legends 2 has already accomplished.

.

Graphics are great
in some areas and crappy in others
He shoots. He scores!
Yay!

Alundra 2's
game mechanics are another nail in the coffin. Although they work
great most of the time, Just wait until you get into a boss battle.
They place you in a awkward camera position that usually makes it
impossible to navigate around seamlessly, the collision detection
is off with most bosses as well making it frustrating to damage
a boss without loosing hit points yourself.
Many good features
of the game include the voice acting and the text translation. Both
are superb. The music is also a enjoyable aspect of the game, though
nothing special, sets the mood for a grand adventure.
The story on
the other-hand is so lame and pointless, that you will be snaking
you fist in disgust, it's that lame.
Rent it first
before you spend your hard earned cash on it.

Bottom
Line: If you are looking for Zelda for your PSX or a true
sequel to Alundra
Then you will be disappointed. But
if you looking for a light hearted Action RPG with a lot of
challenge and enjoyable puzzles then this is one to get.
